Kristi is an amazing nurse and has always been a great teammate. Tonight, however, she went above and beyond in the care of our veterans. We regularly receive confused veterans on our unit who require medications and treatments at times in the night that may impair their ability to sleep. Over the course of several days, sleep deprivation can exacerbate the mentation of an already confused patient. This happened tonight. One of our confused patients began weeping and stated he was scared and couldn't sleep. Kristi rearranged her shift plan so she could sit and hold this veteran's hand until he was calm or fell asleep. Each time I passed her and the veteran, I peeked in the room to make sure she didn't need help. She was sitting by his bedside, holding his hand and comforting him. She stayed with him, talking gently to him, and combing his hair with her fingers until he stopped weeping and fell asleep. Kristi deserves the DAISY Award for being a compassionate and kind nurse!
