May 2026 Honoree
Kourtni Keller, RN
Kourtni consistently demonstrated excellence across every aspect of care. During one of the most difficult periods of my life, as my mother (Helen Clark) was in and out of the hospital for months, Kourtni stood by both of us with unwavering compassion and support.
She didn’t always need words—her actions spoke volumes. She comforted me, reassured me, and made sure I fully understood everything happening with my mother’s condition. Most importantly, she went beyond simply treating symptoms. Kourtni took true accountability in identifying the root cause of my mother’s health issues, and her dedication ultimately made a meaningful difference in the outcome.
The respect she showed—to me, my mother, and even my mother’s roommate—was unlike anything I had previously experienced in a hospital setting. She listened to us, valued our input, and never made us feel less than because we lacked medical knowledge. Her care was genuine, not performative. She did not leave the room until everyone felt settled, heard, and cared for.
Kourtni also made a point to include me in every discussion, decision, and development throughout my mother’s stay. That level of transparency and inclusion meant more than I can fully express.
She is an exceptional nurse, an incredible teammate, and above all, a truly compassionate human being. The coordination and communication within her team were seamless—it was clear that everyone worked together with mutual respect and shared purpose. In that room, on that floor, we were all treated as equals.
Kourtni exemplifies what healthcare should be. I am deeply grateful for her.
At one point during my mother’s stay, she began experiencing what we initially believed to be hospital delirium. After several difficult hours, Kourtni recognized how distressed I was. In a moment that truly demonstrated her critical thinking and attentiveness, she pulled the curtain back from the neighboring area and said, “What if it’s a UTI causing this?”
That simple but insightful question changed everything. A quick test confirmed that my mother did, in fact, have a UTI. Kourtni didn’t just follow assumptions—she challenged them. She went above and beyond to identify the real issue, included me in the discussion, and stayed by my side until we had answers. She reassured me throughout the process, explaining that this was something treatable and far less concerning than the other conditions my mother had been facing.
Kourtni is the kind of person anyone would want in their corner—not only as a nurse, but as a friend, an advocate, and someone you can trust without hesitation. Her passion for her work goes far beyond standard nursing responsibilities. Her presence brought an immense sense of comfort during an incredibly overwhelming time.
Her ability to connect with people on a human level is truly exceptional. I can never fully express my gratitude for the care she provided—not just to my mother, but to me as well. What she gave us went far beyond medical care, and it is something I will never, ever forget.
