March 2026 Honoree
Kourtni Harding, BSN, RN
Nurse Kourtni truly exemplifies what compassionate, patient-centered nursing care should look like. During one of the most overwhelming and vulnerable times in my life, Kourtni went far beyond simply completing tasks or administering care; she showed up for me as a whole person.
I was scared, physically unwell, and emotionally overwhelmed. There were moments when I felt unheard, anxious, and unsure of what was happening with my body. Kourtni stepped into those moments with calm, empathy, and unwavering support. She didn’t just treat my symptoms; she treated me.
She took the time to sit with me when I was spiraling, listened without judgment, and validated my fears instead of dismissing them. When I felt like I couldn’t advocate for myself, she became my voice. She communicated clearly with the medical team, made sure my concerns were taken seriously, and followed through so I didn’t feel forgotten or brushed aside. Knowing she was there gave me a sense of safety that I desperately needed.
What stood out most was her emotional intelligence. She could sense when I was overwhelmed before I even had the words to say it. She explained things in a way that made them less scary. She never rushed me. She made eye contact. She made me feel human during a time when I felt like just another patient in a room.
Kourtni’s compassion changed my experience. Because of her, I felt supported instead of alone. Because of her, I felt empowered instead of helpless. Because of her, I was able to get through an incredibly difficult situation with dignity.
Nurses like Kourtni are the reason the DAISY Award exists. Her advocacy, kindness, professionalism, and genuine care made a lasting impact on me that I will never forget.
I am deeply grateful for the above-and-beyond care she provided, and I truly believe she embodies the heart of nursing. She deserves to be recognized for the extraordinary difference she makes in her patients’ lives.
