The care that Kourtney not only gave to my wife after the delivery of our twins, but to me also, was completely unmatched. Her calming presence and the way that she explained every step of my wife’s care to me is something that I will forever be grateful for.
Kourtney and my wife had an instant connection. I watched as they cried together the first day that Kourtney cared for us because my wife was scared and sad. She just wanted to go to the NICU and visit the twins but wasn’t quite stable enough yet. Once Kourtney felt that my wife was stable, she took us to the NICU to visit our babies.
During this time, with my wife’s phone, she took some of the most beautiful pictures of us meeting the babies for the first time since delivery, which I now realize, since my wife’s passing, are some of my most treasured moments.
In the days that followed, while Kourtney cared for us, my wife continued to open up to her because she was easy to talk to. We were able to laugh and share memories with one another. It might have just been 10 minutes out of Kourtney’s days that she sat in our room and laughed and talked with us, but it meant the absolute world to my wife and me.
After my wife’s passing, Kourtney was one of the first people that I thought to reach out to and thank her for her unbelievable kindness during the hospital stay. Her calm presence then didn’t take away my pain, but it did provide a feeling that, even in the darkest moments, someone truly cares.
She might be a nurse by title, but she is a hero in every sense of the word, and it is in difficult moments like this that her impact truly matters. Kourtney, I hope you know just how much my wife loved you and just how much I appreciate that you cared for us like you would your own family.
