I was with my husband, who was having a pretty routine upper GI procedure in endoscopy, when Korilane and the bedside nurse came into the room to let me know my husband had gone into an arrhythmia (A-fib) mid-procedure. Korilane calmly explained what had happened and what was being done to ensure he was safe, to treat the arrhythmia, and assured me that the doctor had recognized it quickly and that my husband was doing well. Korilane stayed with me to answer questions and let me process the information she had shared before she left the room. She said she would keep me updated, and I had no doubt she would.

Korilane's calm demeanor translated into calm for me. I shared with her that although I felt very confident in the team caring for my husband, I was scared, as my husband's family has a strong family history of cardiac issues, and my mother-in-law passed away from a cardiac incident at the same age my husband is now. She was healthy, and it came out of the blue, so this incident with my husband, although probably mild for everyone on the team, was very scary for me. Korilane listened with empathy, caring, and kindness, which again translated into confidence that everything was going to be okay.
