Kirsten exemplified compassion, patience, and service to a pediatric patient in the tower. The patient was showing some angst about being in the hospital in the middle of the night. Listening to Kirsten calm this patient was profound. Despite the multiple requests, questions, and thoughts the patient had, Kirsten took time to answer her calmly and confidently. She had much compassion for ensuring a trusting relationship was built between them as nurse and patient. Kirsten assured the patient that the door would stay open and that she would be sitting right outside her door at the nurses' station if she needed anything at all. Hearing her explain to the patient how she is here to get better was pleasing to observe from an outside perspective because of how genuine and nurturing Kirsten was to an anxious child who needed comfort. She took time to explain how her IV pump may beep in a little while, so the patient could anticipate the noise. All of this interaction was a clear display of not only the DAISY values, but our core values as a hospital.
