There are many stories from every shift Kimberly works, and that is why I wanted to recognize her. She is very hardworking and does what is best for a patient, even if it is not what makes her popular with family or other caregivers.
We had a really difficult patient on the floor when she was charging. The patient didn't want to take meds and was here for behavioral health/SI issues. The family wanted to take the patient home without any medication or resources or help to treat the patient so they could have regulation and a normal life. She could have turned away, but instead she did everything she could to receive consults and talk about options to help the patient have a normal life.
She had the best intentions, even more than the family whose ideas would hinder the growth and recovery of the patient. Overall, very kind and authentic with patients. They can see how she really does want them to get better, and through her ability to connect, they trust her in taking the right steps. She is also very supportive as a charge nurse in helping both nurses and techs to the best of her ability to alleviate their burdens in stressful time crunches.
She always is honest with patients, but willing to work with them and be creative to allow for the best experience in the hard times they have been allotted. She stands out because she does the right thing not only when no one is watching but even when everyone is watching and wants her to or encourages her to take the easy way out. She always prioritizes patient care and does it while also caring for and prioritizing her team.
She leaves an impact on all caregivers, inspiring them to improve and be a little better every day. She is real and doesn't place false expectations. She understands it isn't easy but offers ways to grow and improve. She impacts patients by helping them take part in their own care by giving them options and information. She allows and encourages independence and autonomy, allowing for greater health improvements and satisfaction in the patient experience.
She is a team builder and shares from personal experience to empathize, but doesn't put people down and makes us, me, want to rise up and be better.
