Kimberly was by far the best nurse we encountered during my uncle’s ICU stay. Kimberly was very personable and actually spoke with us outside of the “Do you have any questions about the patient?” question. She made sure he looked his best, given the situation. Kimberly told us stories relating to this experience to ensure that we are not going through this time alone. She treated us, the family, as humans, as we were losing a family member and not just some people related to the patient. She laughed with us and even cried with us. Kimberly was compassionate and caring toward both my uncle and his family. Even though he couldn’t respond, she spoke to him and let him know what was going on and what she was about to do or what she was giving him. If we had questions, she made sure to give us the correct answer by going out of her way to pull up his chart. As a nursing student, Kimberly is the kind of nurse I want to be like. We could leave the hospital at night confident that he would be properly taken care of with Kimberly. After the countless number of nurses we encountered over the last 11 days, Kimberly was the greatest that my uncle had. I truly believe Kimberly is one of the most deserving nurses for this award on the floor. She went above and beyond her role as a nurse. Kimberly, we thank you so much for the care you provided our uncle and brother and for the comfort you gave us knowing he would be cared for. And I know if he could, he would thank her as well.
