February 2019 Honoree
kim zito, RN, MSN
Kim was scheduled to work until 11 pm. We had a patient come in who was in labor and needed a repeat cesarean. They had no family or friends to come and watch their 3 children (ages 9, 7 and 5). This was all happening during a snowstorm. This meant that the dad was going to miss seeing the birth of their child and mom was going to be alone in the operating room. Kim wanted to help this family. After her shift ended, she clocked out and offered to stay with the 3 children so the father could be with his wife during the delivery. Kim stayed with the children, bonded with them, fed them snacks and put them all down to sleep. She stayed and helped this family on her own time out of the kindness of her heart so these parents could be together during the birth of their child. The father and mother were so blown away by Kim's kindness they couldn't thank her enough.
Thank you, Kim, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
