Kim Brooks deserves formal recognition for all of her hard work and leadership wisdom she shares with both nursing and the entire hospital. One of Kim's leadership responsibilities is leading the journey to Magnet designation. In a matter of just 2 years, Kim has achieved what Magee has been trying to achieve for over a decade- a submission of intent for Magnet recognition. By creating a Magnet coordinating council, a document writing council, and countless Magnet parties, Kim has successfully prepared the hospital for this designation of nursing excellence. Kim attacks all of her responsibilities with the most positive and professional attitude. she genuinely listens to the voices of the staff nurses and does everything in her power to make improvements- from focus groups to rounding support carts, you will always see Kim engaging with the hospital staff. In addition to her duties of Magnet Program Director and Director of Nursing Education, Kim excels outside the professional arena and has been pursuing her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Carlow University. With a capstone project focused on ways to prevent incivility of nurses throughout the hospital, Kim strives to improve the work environment for nurses and patients, alike. Kim is a mentor for other nurses pursuing higher education and is the perfect role model, exemplifying all of UPMC's values. There is no one more deserving of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award!

Kim is a leader of all staff at Magee. She has been a true mentor to me. She is in charge of the education department at Magee as well as the Magnet coordinator for Magee. Also, has found time to back for her DNP. She is a remarkable, compassionate nurse who touches so many lives at Magee. She exemplifies dignity and respect every day. When Kim rounds on the units, she is interested in talking to all staff and listening to what they have to say. She always takes the time to ask how they are doing. She truly loves Magee Womens-Hospital, the staff, and the patients. I really needed her advice and mentorship and she stopped and took the time to listen to my issues and gave me great advice. I was humbled that she took the time out of her hectic schedule to drop everything to help me. Her compassion for others is so visible. She is a true leader and asset to Magee-Women's Hospital of UPMC.
