As soon as I first spoke to Kevin and heard my dad (who had not spoken in 8 days because he was intubated and sedated) talk about how great his nurse was, I knew he was in the best of hands.
My father was in the Neuro ICU at St. Francis for 5ish days after being transferred from Hutch. I spoke with and interacted with most of his nurses, visiting every day, and while they were all great, Kevin was fantastic. He was caring, attentive, and kind. He took all of my dad's crankiness and bad attitude coming off the sedatives and turned it around for him. My father is a very proud man, not quick to give a compliment or trust anyone, but he requested that Kevin continue to be his nurse as long as he could. It meant so much to me and to my family that my dad could feel as comfortable as possible and be treated like a person instead of just a patient.

As the family of a patient, we have no choice but to trust the healthcare professionals to keep him comfortable and cared for when we aren't there. As soon as I first spoke to Kevin and heard my dad (who had not spoken in 8 days because he was intubated and sedated) talk about how great his nurse was, I knew he was in the best of hands. The compassion and patience that I witnessed is exactly what I hoped for for my father. I truly think that Kevin's positive influence on my dad, after coming out of an 8-day sleep, was such an important moment of positivity to begin his long road to recovery and I am so incredibly grateful.
