Kenslie drove the patient's spouse to her home so that she could care for their animals and gather clothes and other items needed for an extended hospital stay. Kenslie then drove her back to the hospital so that she could be with her husband.
During her shift, Kenslie made a close connection with the spouse of one of the patients she was providing care for. During her conversations throughout the day, Kenslie learned that the patient and spouse lived nearly an hour and a half away from the hospital and were in the area for other reasons when the patient began to have a medical emergency. Kenslie learned that they did not have family to assist them, and the spouse did not have a car to be able to drive back home. Once her shift was over, Kenslie drove the patient's spouse to her home so that she could care for their animals and gather clothes and other items needed for an extended hospital stay. Kenslie then drove her back to the hospital so that she could be with her husband.

This scenario highlights not only the kindness and compassion that Kenslie Westmoreland exhibits on an everyday basis, but also shows her abilities to make real, true, human connections with those she cares for; and proves that we, as nurses, not only care for the patients that are in the bed, but also those around them.
