My dear friend and coworker has been battling lung cancer for a year and a half. Her entire world has been turned upside down physically and emotionally. She has spent a great deal of time being an inpatient. Her wonderful husband has been by her side through it all.

Ken took care of the patient and also has the insight to care for the husband. He realized sickness affects the whole family. Ken took the time to listen, drawing on his nursing experience and compassion. Unfortunately, sometimes we get so busy we forget to be compassionate. We are all very appreciative of the kindness and care he gave to them. He took care of both the patient and her husband. He offered them a brief reprieve, a much-needed break.

Kindness is very hard to find these days, and I feel that it contributes to his overall excellence as a nurse at Henry Ford. He was very enthusiastic, radiated positive energy, and helped bring positivity to a difficult situation.

I am honored to nominate him for the DAISY Award, and I extend my most sincere thanks for taking such great care of my dear friend. Having been through members of my own family going through the cancer diagnosis, I am very connected to what a family goes through, and I appreciate nurses like him going above and beyond, making a huge difference to patients and families.
