I was at my breaking point after my transplant and didn't know if I could take it any longer. The pain was unbearable, and my experience before meeting Kendra was not the greatest. But Kendra, my night nurse, my hero, came in and was like a literal breath of fresh air. In one of my lowest moments, she acknowledged me and my pain and said, "We're going to manage this. We will get through this together". She put me on a schedule to get ahead of the pain, and it was managed and followed by the day nurses. By the 3rd or 4th day, my pain was better managed than it ever had been. She was attentive, thorough, kind, and passionate. She was one of those who knew nursing was a calling. Her compassion and dedication to her patients gave me hope through this journey. If there's anyone who deserves a DAISY Award, it should be Kendra.
