She as a nurse should be recognized for her high acuteness to research the patient, high level of professionalism, her empathy for the patient's family and her commitment to her job.
My mother was admitted to the ICU from the ER close to midnight. This occurred four days post a pacemaker implant. She presented to the ER with the onset of nausea, vomiting, and inability to eat.

From the ER to the nightshift ICU staff, Kelsey was the first professional to look at my momma's CT scan ordered in the ER. She first thought maybe my mom had an intestinal obstruction due to the symptoms she was relayed to by the previous ICU nurse.

Once she reviewed the CT scan of my mom's heart and pericardial area, she noticed the enlarged heart sac and notified me around 9:00 AM. My mother was not well. I was down getting coffee and immediately came up and was shocked at how deteriorated my mom's health had worsened since 9:30 PM when we presented to the ER.

She paged the ICU hospitalist repeatedly and consulted the critical care team resident to see if they could come see her. She wanted my mom to be intubated before possibly having cardiac arrest. When the doctor responded and looked at my mom about 11:30, Kelsey was doing everything within her power to help my mom.

Cardiology was contacted at 12 noon, and my mom was taken to the Cath lab to drain her pericardial sac. Unfortunately, my mom had a cardiac arrest when being lifted onto the cardiac cath table. My mom had been in cardiac tamponade upon presenting to the ER, and she was the first to notice.

She as a nurse should be recognized for her high acuteness to research the patient, high level of professionalism, her empathy for the patient's family and her commitment to her job. She was responsible for two critical patients that day. I felt she treated my mom as if she were her mom and us as family.

My mom went into cardiac shock and was in the hospital for a month. I feel Kelsey was doing everything in her power to prevent this and was so sharp at catching it before anyone else, as a nurse.

Her shift ended at 7:00 pm that night, but I saw her stay until 9:00 pm so that all paperwork, documentation, and assistance to the nurse relieving her were in order from such a chaotic day with two critical patients. If I'm ever in such a critical health condition, I hope she is my nurse or a nurse with the same attributes.

I was in the cafeteria one day and felt a tap on my shoulder, and it was her. She gave me a big hug.
