Kelly is someone who’s always teaching, advocating, and learning. She is the true meaning of nursing. She has characteristics such as compassion, integrity, empathy, and advocacy.
Kelly was meant to be a nurse. Endless years in healthcare, working her way through the system from PCT, RN, and now an NP. There are not enough words to express how valuable Kelly is to JSUMC.

Ackerman 5E is a melting pot of patients, whether pediatric, med-surg, or hospice. With so many different areas of specialty that require a plethora of education and knowledge. Between amputations, exploratory laparotomies, pregnant women, bowel obstructions, and hospice, you name it, Ackerman 5E has it. But one person who makes it easy is Kelly.

Kelly has shown empathy to families who have just lost their loved ones. Ensuring patients are comfortable and spoken for when they cannot speak for themselves while dying. Advocating for patients, such as pain, discharge barriers, getting in contact with doctors, social work, etc.

Education for nurses who need assistance with unstable patients, new skills, and guiding the way for countless new grad nurses. Assisting in Rapid Responses and being a team leader.

Kelly is someone who’s always teaching, advocating, and learning. She is the true meaning of nursing. She has characteristics such as compassion, integrity, empathy, and advocacy. She is never afraid to speak up when something is wrong.

Kelly does more than what is asked of her, helping nurses with IVs, repositioning patients, comforting sons who lost their mother, setting up patients with breakfast, and finding any way possible to help all while doing her own tasks.

Kelly shines the most when it comes to hospice. Explaining to a daughter how a Foley catheter at the end of her mother's life can bring comfort and ease the pain of a full bladder. Getting to know her patients' hobbies, interests, and careers. Assuring families that the loved one will always be there with them and to stay strong during the toughest times of their lives.

A comforting conversation, a warm smile, and a big hug to know that she’s more than just a nurse, she’s a human who cares. Kelly is a valuable asset to any team she comes across and makes a difference in every person she’s near.

JSUMC wouldn't be the same without Kelly, as she has precepted many new nurses and worn nearly every hat imaginable; she’s touched many lives.
