She was attentive and compassionate. I could not have asked for a better nurse.
I was seen at Short Pump ER for abdominal pain and was assigned a different nurse. However, Kelly was extremely attentive to the monitors and recognized changes in my vitals which led her to take an active approach in my care while consulting my assigned nurse. Kelly requested I be put on telemonitoring as my HR was tachycardic. She also noted that I was de-saturating in my Pulse OX and initiated O2. Then checked my temp which was over 100 and not a symptom I came in with. Kelly then approached the Nurse Practitioner to ask about maybe running COVID and sepsis labs to rule out those issues. Thankfully both were negative. However, that initiated the Nurse Practitioner to proactively order antibiotics. Kelly kept an eye on my labs and vitals often checking in to see how I was. For not being my assigned nurse, she kept an eye on me and noticed things that my assigned nurse may not have. She took over for my assigned nurse once they left. She also assisted in getting me moved up on the transfer to St. Mary’s list due to the need to see a hospitalist sooner. She advocated for me with her Nursing Supervisor to use an alternative ambulance transport service that had a sooner ETA than AMR did. Overall, I had a very positive experience at Short Pump ER with all staff including my assigned nurse, but I feel that Kelly went above and beyond for me, but I also feel like she would do that for anyone whom she recognized changes in their condition for. She was attentive and compassionate. I could not have asked for a better nurse. She was also attentive to my mother who was with me and even rescued her from the busy lobby area when I could have visitors.
