Even after an incredibly hard shift the night before, Kelly brought over Five Guys for lunch and just sat with me.
Kelly wasn't my nurse as a patient, she was much more. She was my Charge Nurse, my friend, a mom, and most importantly, someone I felt I could let my walls down around. When this whole COVID thing started, I could feel myself starting to spiral down.
I chose to stay at the hotel between work shifts so I would not risk exposing my family to COVID. Weeks of not being able to see my family felt like months. I was not taking care of myself the way I usually do. I am not one to open up to people about this. It's not me. I am always happy.
Kelly just so happened to be staying in the same hotel as me, trying to keep her family safe between shifts. Even after an incredibly hard shift the night before, she brought over Five Guys for lunch and just sat with me. It meant the world to me. I didn't feel like I was drowning for a short time.
Kelly's kind heart is what makes a true nurse and leader. She might not see it, but she made a huge difference in my life.
