A coworker nominated Kelli. There have been many times that Kelli has demonstrated compassionate care. Kelli works primarily as a charge nurse, and this doesn't stop her from caring for patients that are in our unit. An example of this was a patient with mental disabilities who had been pulling medical equipment off. She was placed in mittens. She seemed very distressed being limited, so Kelli took it upon herself to try to help this patient. She brought a bag containing multiple toys, including dolls, fidget toys, and stress balls. Kelli explained that she saw the need for these toys for patients with fidgeting issues. Kelli also explained that on her days off, she will be in a store, see things, and buy them with the hope that one of those items will help our patients. These monetary contributions are not the only thing Kelli does for our patients. In August, I was taking care of a patient. This patient had a chronic trach with a brain injury. I was with another patient and was walking past that room. Kelli, who was charging that day, was in that patient's room performing passive range of motion. Kelli is an exceptional nurse leader. She goes above and beyond for anyone whom she comes in contact with.
