My mother was admitted twice for complications due to her chemotherapy. The last admission was due to her dehydration and worsening kidney function. Kelley was our nurse during this admission. I am a registered nurse with 29 years of experience, most of which was served at this hospital. At the time of admission, I was working part-time at Meritus Medical Center. Kelley greeted us with much professionalism and kindness, providing care for my mother and answering any questions we had. She made sure my mother was as comfortable as possible, and her calm and sometimes witty presence brought reassurance to me and my family during the most difficult time for all of us. She cared not only for my mother's medical needs but also her emotional well-being, all the while recognizing the situation that I found myself in not only as a daughter, but also as a healthcare provider.

With tears in her eyes, Kelley shared with me that she had recently experienced a similar situation with a loved one, and she offered me a warm embrace. Those small acts of compassion meant more than words can express. Nursing is more than providing medical care; it is caring for people with skill, compassion, and, most importantly, humanity. Kelley exemplifies everything the DAISY Award represents. Because of these attributes not only did my mother receive exceptional care, so did I her daughter, a nurse.

My mother unfortunately lost her battle with cancer. The last year has been the most challenging for myself as a daughter and as a nurse I cared for her, but I and my family are deeply grateful for the care that Kelley provided to us all and believe she is truly deserving of this recognition.

Meritus Medical Center is blessed to have such a kind and caring professional.

Thank you, Kelley, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
