It was brought to my attention from one of Keith's peers that he went above and beyond caring for his patients. Recently, a family was brought in via squad from an MVA on highway i-75. This was a single mother with several minor children. The children and the mother, fortunately, had minor injuries; however, there was a bigger concern of the single mother. She was told by the officer that her vehicle was totaled and that she would have to find another mode of transportation. She was extremely nervous because she was several hours away, was not familiar with the area, exhausted, and without a car to travel. Grant County is a rural community where the public transit system is not existent, taxi services are extremely limited and costly. Keith took it upon himself to offer them a ride to a nearby hotel after the end of his shift. The mother was so appreciative because her financial resources were limited. Keith waited in the car while the mother went into a nearby hotel to check-in. The mother came back out of the hotel in tears stating that they do not take cash after 6p and she did not have any possession of credit cards or additional resources. As Keith consoled her, he decided to go into the hotel to speak with the front desk person about this matter. He did confirm with the hotel associate that credit cards were the only way for payment. He took it upon himself to pay for the room on his personal credit card so they could have a place to rest. He was not asked nor required to pay for this mother with her minor children's room.
Such great acts demonstrate a perfect example of how the efforts of one person, can truly make a difference. He is a true DAISY Nurse because his extraordinary compassion goes beyond and above his nursing skills and his actions demonstrate his commitment to serve others at anytime each and every day.
