Her compassion and generosity are a true testament to the kind of person she is.
I would like to recognize Kaytie Iverson, RN, for being a great example of a compassionate nurse and an incredible advocate for patients. While she was attempting to schedule a patient's colonoscopy, it was clear to Kaytie that this patient was going to need some assistance with this process. The patient explained to Kaytie that she lives alone but has mental health issues and has assistance from some of our local organizations for food assistance, as well as other programs to help her to live independently. The patient does not drive, and her mother is able to help with transportation as much as she can.

The patient's mother had not been well for a week and was unable to help pick up her weekly food donations. Due to a breakdown in her usual process, Kaytie determined that she would be completely out of food by the weekend, not to mention pick up a prep for a colonoscopy.

After speaking with the patient about her situation, Kaytie reached out to her social worker. It was determined that the patient would have to wait until the following week to get her food supply changed to a drop-off situation.

Kaytie knew she could not go home for the weekend, knowing that the patient had no food left in her house for the weekend. Kaytie asked the patient if it would be all right with her if she brought her some groceries. She agreed, and they discussed what she would need for the weekend. Kaytie spoke with her husband, and they agreed that the food insecurity was something that they could and would like to help with. He came into town to drop the groceries off with Kaytie. Along with the groceries, Kaytie also picked up the items for a colon prep for the patient, as they had come up with a day for a colonoscopy the following week.

The groceries and bowel prep were dropped off, and the patient was very grateful for Kaytie and her husband's generosity. She was able to come to the surgery center and have her colonoscopy completed.

Kaytie's actions were well above the call of duty as a GI nurse at the Great Falls Clinic. Her compassion and generosity are a true testament to the kind of person she is. Kaytie is a truly genuine person with a heart of gold, and I am so thankful she is a part of the Endoscopy team. The world needs more Kayties!
