After a traumatizing experience losing my first pregnancy at 16 weeks and undergoing many medical tests, I received an enormous medical bill. It caused a huge amount of emotion to resurface and added another layer of despair to a horrible situation. I reached out to the Maternal-Fetal Medicine department to figure out the billing situation. They stated my insurance denied coverage. Kayley was an amazing advocate for my rights and put in a great amount of effort to help figure out my bill. I know she was juggling a lot at the time, with in-person patient visits, and still made time to call insurance multiple times, talk to providers, and keep me in the loop. This occurred over multiple months, and she did not give up. She ended up resolving the issue and maintaining grace and persistence throughout. Kayley never made me feel as though I was a hassle or asking too much. Nothing about losing a baby is easy, and the medical bills make it even worse. Having someone advocate for me during this time was so meaningful.
