She was so comforting and reassuring. She was so calm and thoughtful with him, making sure he knew how brave he was being.
I brought my seven-year-old son to the Heart Hospital after he had an accident at church. He fell and split his chin wide open. He was scared, hurting, and covered in blood, which only made him more terrified. Seeing your child in pain with a large facial laceration gushing blood is terrifying for a parent. I cannot imagine how scared my son has been. Kaylee Goates came and got us within seconds of checking in. He was immediately put comfortably in a bed. She was so comforting and reassuring. She was so calm and thoughtful with him, making sure he knew how brave he was being. She cleaned him up and had a meaningful, intentional conversation with him the entire time she worked. I genuinely felt like she was taking care of her own child with the way she treated him. She walked him through every step of what was happening, which isn’t easy when you’re talking with a scared child. She stayed with him every step of the way and covered him in stickers once he was all put back together. I know a laceration may seem small in an emergency department, but as a parent, that child is my whole world, and having someone care for him who put their whole heart and soul into that little boy and his fears were such a blessing. Being able to treat a patient and have their family feel like the person providing their care treated them like they would treat their own family is something I will forever be grateful for. Kaylee is truly amazing.
