I witnessed Kayla express so much compassion and support to the family of a young man who had overdosed as well as remain calm with a verbally abusive woman who was brought in by AMR.
I brought my father into St Joseph's Dignity Health emergency room on Saturday. Here is our story and the nurses in the ED that I am nominating: Kayla and Anthony in the Emergency Department were absolutely amazing in caring for my father during a difficult episode. As my father's full-time care provider, I can personally attest to how difficult he can be as he is very set in his beliefs and can not handle his current pain levels. He has been ornery and a little mean but both Kayla and Anthony (Anthony was his main nurse and Kayla assisted sometimes) were both so, patient and caring. Anthony was attentive and explained what the plan of care was at every step of the way. I witnessed Kayla express so much compassion and support to the family of a young man who had overdosed as well as remain calm with a verbally abusive woman who was brought in by AMR. At one point Anthony was out of ratios due to a delay in discharge but he remained in control, sought support from his peers, and still was able to provide excellent care to my father. I have had several experiences at various Emergency Rooms all over SJC and beyond as a social worker, by trade, as a daughter, and as a mother and this experience was by far the best I have ever had. We ended up being in the ER from roughly 7 am until a bed opened up for him around 7 pm so I was able to witness many acts of patience, compassion and grace by both Anthony and Kayla! Way to go St Joseph Emergency Department!!!
