September 2026 Honoree
Kay Lenaburg, RN
My mother was admitted to OMC. When we (my brother and I) walked down the hall to her room the first time since being readmitted, Kay immediately told us that our mother was doing really well. She knew who we were and filled us in on everything going on.
Saturday and Sunday, she was there and aware, without looking at the chart, of all issues with her care. She knew how much or little she had eaten, issues regarding a bump on her body found by washing her. We knew nothing of this – but she knew that it had been there and looked at it.
She came in shortly after our arrival, updated us on the doctor’s visit, and that release might be imminent. My father asked about a wound on her backside that we knew of from her stint in rehab. She noted the wound and brought in a pressure cushion to help prevent it from worsening.
At every turn, she showed patience with my mother, who suffers from dementia, along with care and humor. It was exceedingly wonderful to note the level of care and concern provided to my mother by Kay.
Seeing this level of care was heartwarming.
