Katie met me with a big smile and an excited, infectious greeting at 6 AM! I couldn't have been more surprised, as I hate mornings more than you could possibly know. She had me immediately laughing, which immediately put me at ease. While she brought me back, the conversation continued, because of my background, I noticed what she was doing, but as a normal person, I would not have recognized that she was already starting the interview and pre-op questioning in a calming, reassuring manner.

Being scared and concerned, her supportive, honest, and specific answers to my questions were so appreciated and continued to keep me relaxed and reassured that having surgery on my foot was the right thing to do. She typed info into the computer seamlessly as our conversation continued, without pregnant pauses in the conversation, as it was obvious that she knew what she was doing so well that she was able to do what she had to do while keeping the focus on me instead of the associated informatics. How professional!

She assured me of my privacy when I needed it. She got the IV on the first shot without discomfort and secured it quickly without fumbling around. She did it like a pro, as if it were no big thing instead of a stressful task. She moved about doing her work, connecting leads and ensuring my modesty while doctors came in and out. So comfortable, and then provided me with warm blankets that felt so cozy instead of the blankets that were on the cart.

She went the extra mile constantly. I felt like I was taken care of, as if I were her mom or dad. She continued to check on me and never hesitated to escort the three alternating family members back to see me as I waited for my turn in surgery. She was the constant in the constant world of change that I needed, keeping me updated and informed, providing me with information and not just data. She made me feel as if I were the most important thing she was doing today.
