I would like to nominate Katie Scandone for the DAISY Award in recognition of her exceptional care and compassion.

My mother passed away on hospice in September, and during that time, I found myself in a unique and difficult position—transitioning from my role as a hospice manager to simply being a daughter caring for her dying parent.

Katie was assigned as my mother's nurse, and while I already knew what an exceptional nurse she is, experiencing her care firsthand gave me an even deeper appreciation for the impact she has on her patients and their families.

Katie’s warmth, humor, and compassion made an incredible difference during an emotionally challenging time. She not only provided outstanding medical care but also took the time to explain the why behind her recommendations, ensuring I felt supported and informed. 

Even with nearly 40 years of experience as a hospice nurse, caring for my own loved one made it easy to lose perspective. Katie gently and compassionately guided me through the disease process, offering reassurance when I questioned my decisions.

Beyond managing my mother’s care, Katie was a source of strength for me. She was there when I needed someone to lean on, offering comfort and unwavering support. Her kindness and empathy made all the difference, and I am deeply grateful.
Katie embodies the very essence of what the DAISY Award represents. I wholeheartedly believe she deserves this recognition for the extraordinary care she provides to her patients and their families.
