Katie went in and was able to empathize with them and their situation and get them to see that hospice is a comfort measure for their mom.
Katie always goes about and beyond for every patient. As I shadowed her for my preceptorship, she taught me the correct way to do many procedures and made sure that I was aware of every policy beforehand. She is attentive to the small details and helpful to the staff on shift. She makes sure to ask if anyone needs help and if they do, she is ready to provide help and teach along the way. I am grateful that I got a chance to shadow her and hope that I can be as good of a nurse as Katie is one day.

Following is the acronym to explain how this nurse displays their remarkable acts of compassion and clinical excellence in an above-and-beyond situation.

P. Compassion: Katie makes sure to be attentive to the patient and family at all times by asking what they need and ensuring they use the call light and call her if needed with a prompt response to the call.

E: one time when a patient's mother needed to be hospice but the daughter and her siblings were having difficulty accepting that, Katie went in and was able to empathize with them and their situation and get them to see that hospice is a comfort measure for their mom.

T: I trust Katie's nursing judgment as my preceptor and it is obvious that he coworkers trust her as they come to her for guidance and help with their patients. It is clear that there is a truce sense of teamwork and camaraderie between the day shift WOW nurses and techs.

A: admirable attributes about Katie include her attention to detail and how she cares for her patients and takes the time to get to know them, even in their short stays.

L: I do not doubt that Katie has a true love for nursing. She is so knowledgeable about the profession and shows compassion to every patient even if she is not the primary nurse.

S: Katie always makes it a point to ensure that everyone around her has the resources to complete their job and have a successful shift. She is able to complete her own tasks and still tends to other people's needs on the unit. She is able to multitask and somehow make everyone feel like they are the number one priority.
