This was my first experience navigating a broken bone—and it was my own daughter who was hurt. Having a very active 6-year-old with a broken arm brought a wave of “what ifs” and anxious moments. My first interaction with Katie was over the phone, when she kindly helped reschedule my daughter’s Orthopedics appointment after the original time didn’t work for us. As someone who works at Mayo Clinic, I understand how challenging scheduling can be. That’s why it meant so much that a nurse personally called to find a time that worked better for our family. That level of care is rare, but Katie made it happen. She went above and beyond to ensure we were supported every step of the way. Katie truly lives out Mayo Clinic’s motto: “The needs of the patient come first.” Every time we spoke, she asked, “How can we better help?” or “What more can I do to assist?” She consistently checked in with my daughter to make sure she was doing okay. Over the past month, we’ve had several appointments in La Crosse, and Katie always welcomed us with a warm smile and genuine kindness. She is so deserving of recognition. Katie made sure our appointments were convenient and that we received the best care possible. Whether we were at the clinic or calling in with questions, she was always ready to help—thorough, compassionate, and focused on making my daughter feel happy, healthy, and truly cared for.
