It's taken me a few weeks to write what I have to say about Katie. I will say, the complex care team is an absolutely vital piece to CHOP. We couldn't do this life with a medically complex child without it. Katie is an essential member to this team. She is one Nurse who sticks with the patients on her team throughout all of the physician turnovers.
My son was admitted for weeks due to pancreatitis, from which he wasn't recovering well. She was our constant. She saw all of his symptoms. She saw him from day one until discharge day and helped guide each of the physicians in terms of what was "his normal" and what his pain symptoms looked like versus not tolerating feeds. She was just...always there. Someone to bounce ideas off of. Someone who emotionally was here for the parents, too. She helped educate, but also was incredibly supportive of what we wanted for our child.
We are frequent flyers here at CHOP with our son, and I truly don't think we could have done it without her.
