Katie made what could have been one of the hardest experiences of our lives into one filled with compassion, laughter, and love.
During our twins’ 12-day stay in the NCIU this past August, my wife and I had the privilege of having Katie Logsdon as our primary night shift nurse. From the very first night, Katie went above and beyond to not only provide exceptional clinical care to our babies but also to bring light, laughter, and comfort to us as new and anxious parents.
Katie had an incredible way of making us feel at ease during an incredibly difficult time. She took the time to explain every detail, answer every question, and guide us through each new experience with patience and compassion. She made sure we never felt alone on this journey.
Katie also found thoughtful ways to make our NCIU experience more personal and joyful. Knowing how much I love Disney, she would play Disney soundtracks during the twins’ bathtime—singing and dancing around the room with us. Those moments gave us connection and joy in what was otherwise a dark and uncertain time. Every night before leaving, she left detailed notes in our room, so we knew exactly what happened during her shift and how our babies were doing. That extra care meant so much and gave us peace of mind.
Katie truly embodies every aspect of the DAISY Award principles:
Dedicated to patient care and satisfaction: Katie treated our babies as if they were her own and ensured their every need was met with love and skill. She went out of her way to make sure we, as parents, felt informed, included, and cared for as well.
Positive attitude and professionalism: No matter how busy the night was, Katie’s positive spirit never wavered. Her laughter and warm personality filled the room, turning fear into hope and worry into comfort.
Interested in the needs of the patient and family: Katie understood that caring for our twins also meant caring for us as parents. She recognized our emotional needs and always took the time to check on us, offer encouragement, and make sure we were doing okay.
Stands for and demonstrates the caring ideals, mission, and values of BHLOU: Katie lives out the mission of compassionate, family-centered care. Her empathy, dedication, and humanity left a lasting impact on our family.
Katie made what could have been one of the hardest experiences of our lives into one filled with compassion, laughter, and love. We will forever be grateful for her care and will always remember the difference she made in our family’s story.
