Katie was our night nurse during our 3rd day postpartum. We highly recommend Katie for a DAISY Award for being the example par excellence of full-service nursing care. Katie went far above expectations by greeting us with love and first addressing our immediate mental health needs before tackling breastfeeding. She gave us hands-on, practical breastfeeding training at least 7 times during her shift, without any sign of frustration with us, not even once.

She checked in constantly during her shift, even scheduling times to take our son for a few hours at multiple points, because she wanted us to sleep. She provided care with a perfect blend of love, directness, and laughter (and common-sense wisdom from being a parent herself). She gave her own practical advice while also acknowledging and uplifting the efforts of colleagues who had tried to help us previously during our stay.

She reassured Mom that things would get better and gave us a realistic outlook on how nursing habits in our son would evolve. She taught Dad how to support Mom in breastfeeding and other infant care tasks. Most importantly, she helped Mom go from tears/guilt/overwhelm to a confident nursing mom in under 12 hours. Katie did not give up on us until she found what worked for our specific baby.
