Kathy's efforts meant that now a skilled nursing facility could admit Dad and keep up his wound treatment.
My father was transferred from the ER in Portland to Hillsboro. Upon arriving, the medical providers got the wound care team on board to evaluate and start treatment for a wound that began elsewhere as a mild bed sore but, unfortunately, worsened quickly. Kathy was the lead RN from the wound care team that provided my father's care.
Right away, Kathy started communicating with us about the wound and how she would like to proceed. She let us know about a treatment that would potentially be helpful. We said, go for it! Kathy did outside research to determine the most appropriate way to adhere the dressing/treatment machine. Even within just a few days, there was positive change and issue healing. After another round of treatment, even more progress! Kathy got dad to a point where we finally started to see positive and not worsening outcomes!
Further, Kathy's efforts meant that now a skilled nursing facility could admit Dad and keep up his wound treatment. We are so thankful for the knowledge, care, and thoroughness that Kathy provided for my father's treatment and recovery after having a long road prior with worsening conditions. I know that Kathy is working towards making this treatment more readily available to others who come to OHSU Hillsboro Medical Center. Thank you!
Note: This is Kathy's 2nd DAISY Award!
