August 2026 Honoree
Kathryn Malachowsky, Registered Nurse
I cannot be more grateful for Katie. Katie took care of my dad from day one of admission until the day he died. He had an extensive journey and unfortunately passed very unexpectedly.
When I came to the ICU after he passed, Katie looked devastated. I was just so comforted in the fact that she was with him when he died, and she was able to help me through the grief. The first thing I said to her was, "Were you with him?", and she told me that she was. I broke down and just kept thanking her for being with him at a time that I wasn't able to be there.
From day one, she made sure not only to take care of my dad but also of me. Everything was explained thoroughly; she made sure to speak with providers if she had any concerns, and she remained optimistic, yet realistic during his stay.
Katie went above and beyond; the entire ICU staff did. After he died, she answered all of my questions, which she was able to bring a personal perspective to, having also lost a parent. The best thing that was said to me was, "There's nothing else to say other than this just sucks, but I'm here".
Katie, keep being you. Don't ever change. I hope you realize how much of a difference you make in people's lives.
