You stopped what you were doing and made sure he was brought to the emergency area where he could be cared for. That simple act of compassion spoke volumes about who you are.
Nurse Baker,
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness while my sister was undergoing surgery to repair a damaged artery. It was a long and emotional day for me, and your presence made a difference in ways you may not even realize.
What touched me most was how quickly you responded when I told you about the gentleman who had been sitting downstairs for hours, waiting for a ride that never seemed to come. You didn't hesitate. You stopped what you were doing and made sure he was brought to the emergency area where he could be cared for. That simple act of compassion spoke volumes about who you are.
As I walked back and forth from the hospital to the garage that day. I kept thinking about him. While I sat in my car eating, John Lennon's Imagine played in my mind, and I found myself looking at a quote I keep posted in my study:
"Even in our sleep, pain which we cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, until in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom through the grace of God. " —Aeschylus
His face still lingers with me, and I am grateful beyond words that you stepped in. I pray that he is now in good hands.
I spent seven hours on campus on Friday, watching you and your colleagues move with such care, patience, and compassion. Late that evening, at 10:26 p.m., the doctor called to let me know that my sister's surgery was complete, and later I learned she had been moved to the CCU. I will be returning soon to see her, but before I do, I wanted to make sure you knew how deeply I appreciate you.
Thank you for being the eyes, ears, and feet of God as you live your life. May God continue to bless you, your family, and the sacred work you do every day.
