When the IV was aching, Katherine would make a gauze wedge to help or ask if I would like to hear the baby’s heartbeat to calm any anxieties when she would leave the room.
Katherine was friendly, personable, and caring from the very first moment. By the time I walked into the hospital to deliver my second baby, I was nearly in tears. I hadn’t slept and the labor pains were starting to feel like they would never end. Through my contractions, she would pause whenever it was needed, or jump in to distract me when my husband couldn’t think of one more thing.

Often times she would bring me comfort with distraction and getting medical information or setting something up at the same time. She nearly had to rig a new system with towels and extra straps to get the monitoring devices to work! But she also knew her own limits and would bring in other nurses to confirm ultrasound data or check the dilation chart out of the room before calling it. Without asking, she was here to keep discussions and distractions going during the epidurals and labor pains. My comfort felt paramount!

When the IV was aching, she would make a gauze wedge to help or ask if I would like to hear the baby’s heartbeat to calm any anxieties when she would leave the room. Never once did I feel judged or that working with me was just a routine. She explained everything ahead of time and if things changed, she would explain why. I felt so honored to have her there at my daughter’s birth at the end. She is the type of nurse that truly cares. She is professional and knowledgeable. She made me feel safe physically and emotionally. I cannot imagine a better nurse.
