Katherine Pate, RN
I am honored to commend Nurse Kate Pate for the extraordinary care she provided to my family in the NICU. During one of the most overwhelming and emotional times of our lives, Kate went far beyond her duties—she truly made a lasting difference in our experience as new parents.
From the very beginning, Kate showed kindness, patience, and genuine compassion. She took the time to not only care for our baby girls (C and A), but to care for us as parents who were learning everything for the first time. She gently taught me how to change a diaper, never making me feel rushed or unsure. One moment that will always stay with me is when my husband and I learned how to handle our very first blowout together (by C). Kate guided us through it with such calmness and encouragement, turning what could have been a stressful situation into a memory we now laugh about.
Kate also played a huge role in helping me learn how to feed my daughter, A. She was there step by step, offering guidance and support as she completed her very first bottle. She didn’t just show me what to do—she empowered me, building my confidence in a way that meant everything during such a vulnerable time. What stood out most about Kate was how deeply she cared. She was always moving, always attentive, and always present. No matter how busy things were, she made us feel like we mattered. Her patience with me never wavered, and her encouragement gave me strength when I needed it most. I am so incredibly grateful that Kate was one of our nurses. Her compassion, dedication, and willingness to go above and beyond are exactly what the DAISY Award represents. She made a lasting impact on our family, and I will never forget the care she gave us.
