She has a compassionate, angelic heart that allows her to genuinely connect with even the most challenging patients and relatives.
When I joined Dominican, I had just left another hospital. As the new nurse to that unit, my every move was put under extreme scrutiny, and I was once called to the office for being “not very chatty.” In spite of all that, I am truly blessed to have met Kate Wiebe here as my preceptor at Dominican Hospital. Warm and welcoming from the moment she introduced herself, she helped me ease myself into the unit by attesting to my strengths and professional competence. She embodies the qualities of a preceptor who encourages and motivates in a firm yet non-judgmental approach. Even with her wealth of knowledge and experience that is belied by her easy-going, down-to-earth demeanor, Kate is never patronizing or overbearing. Clinically, she upholds the highest of standards, particularly in advocating that sedation and analgesia should be a package deal for intubated patients. I am so confident in Kate’s abilities that I would entrust her the care of my patients and even my own family without hesitation. Kate is passionate about keeping the workspace organized and ensuring that the minutiae of nursing care are not falling to the wayside. She has a compassionate, angelic heart that allows her to genuinely connect with even the most challenging patients and relatives. She has reaffirmed my belief that human kindness is the one true universal language that transcends all barriers. Would I say, “Kate is nice?” Absolutely- and much, much more. In these days when nurses care for patients but forget to care for one another, that basic niceness is a rare gem to find.
