She understood my condition and constantly alleviated my fears before they arose. Kate is an excellent listener.
I was admitted to Good Samaritan Regional Hospital with the diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma. It had progressed extremely quickly into my torso, pelvis, and legs. Instead of the normal route of information and education about this new life-changing disease, I was thrust into an emergency situation with no mental emotional, or physical preparation. From day one in the hospital, my ability to move was extremely limited and my pain was extreme (the pain scale did not seem to come close to what I was feeling). Kate understood that. During my stay in the hospital, I have experienced a multitude of GSRH healthcare providers. Kate displayed the best attributes anyone could hope for from a nurse. She was my day nurse for the first several days. She made effort to establish an initial trust in care, which made me feel safe and secure. My fear of the unknown was extreme. Kate was amazing at relieving so much of that fear. Kate does this intuitively and was able to immediately discern my needs for calm and quiet. She understood my condition and constantly alleviated my fears before they arose. Kate is an excellent listener. She always listened to my needs and complaints, working with me and not just dispensing nursing services. Kate always stayed in the room throughout meetings with doctors to understand how medicines and treatments were being tolerated and the effectiveness they provided me. Kate’s superlative care, stood out among all staff, guiding me through my healing progress. Kate clearly demonstrated the difference between routine care and excellence in nursing. She has a great future ahead of her; Good Samaritan is fortunate to have her on their staff. I could not have gotten to where I am now, able to go home, without that initial care that I got from Kate. She is someone for all to aspire to. I am grateful every day that she was here for me for this traumatic time of life.
