Our world turned upside down when both of my parents were critically injured in a car accident. My brother and I were faced with the unimaginable, having to suddenly navigate caring for our otherwise very healthy parents in a large hospital system, 45-minutes from home and our young families. Daiana tended to my mom while she recovered on the trauma floor, and Kate cared for my dad while he was in the TICU. These two individuals provided an exceptional level of care, providing a safe environment (emotionally, mentally, and physically) for us to process the events that occurred, and allowing us a space to ask any questions that were on our minds. Kate and Daiana became like family. My brother and I would have never survived the four weeks at RI Hospital without them. They were instrumental in saving both of their lives. Daiana was an advocate, support system, and exceptional caregiver for my mom on a floor where you become one of many. Kate dedicated her days to caring for my dad in a way I never thought was possible. She was proactive in addressing issues and concerns while constantly communicating with us. The care she provided was outstanding. We look back on the last 5 weeks as some of the worst of our lives. But then we remember the two of them, and we are so grateful they entered our lives.
