Karly Umland, RN
Karly was my Emergency Department nurse when I first came to the hospital with respiratory distress. After several breathing treatments and some meds, I was cleared for discharge. When she came in to go over my AVS, she noticed that while my O2 stats were improved, my breathing was not.
She advocated for me (even when I wouldn't have myself) and was able to pursue further treatment. My hospital course then changed from discharge to an admission to the ICU, where I was able to get the appropriate level of care.
She is exactly the type of nurse that you want in your department and on your care team. Her attention to detail and expertise are an asset to your hospital. I am grateful that she was my voice when I couldn't be.
