Her dedication, kindness, and advocacy made an enormous difference in my care and in my confidence moving forward.
I would like to recognize Karlisa because she made one of the hardest hospital stays of my life feel safer, calmer, and less overwhelming. From the very beginning, Karlisa made me feel seen. She didn’t rush through my care or treat me like just another patient. She listened to me—really listened—to everything I was feeling and experiencing, even the things I couldn’t fully explain.
She took my concerns seriously when others had brushed them off, and she made sure my voice was heard by the rest of the medical team. There were times when I felt scared and unsure, but Karlisa always brought comfort. She explained things in a way I could understand, checked in on me often, and helped me feel like I wasn’t going through this alone.
She was patient, compassionate, and so genuine. Most importantly, she advocated for me. She helped push for answers, encouraged me to speak up about my symptoms, and guided my family toward resources that could help me get a diagnosis—even if it didn’t happen during this hospital stay. Because of her, I felt hopeful again.
Her dedication, kindness, and advocacy made an enormous difference in my care and in my confidence moving forward. I’ll always be grateful for the way she treated me—with respect, empathy, and heart. Karlisa is exactly the type of nurse who deserves the DAISY Award.
