We had a patient brought in from another state for her dialysis. The patient was hypertensive, so that they couldn't do her dialysis. They called her and reported to us that her physician wanted to have her checked out. The patient had no means of getting home. The patient was discharged from the ER. She attempted to get a ride from her daughter, whose car broke down on her way here. Then, the patient tried to call a ride. They said that it would be 130$, which she did not have. She was in the waiting room as I was trying to get the house to try and get a ride approved. Karen, who was the day shift house supervisor, took it upon herself to drive this patient all the way home, which is over an hour's drive from our hospital. Karen worked her complete 12-hour shift and then spent two hours driving afterward so this patient could get home.
