I want to nominate Nurse Karen because she really made a difference in the way my mom was cared for. I’m always inside my mama’s room as her carer, and honestly, I got used to the same routine every day — giving meds, checking vitals, doing what needs to be done. But when Nurse Karen came in, something felt different. She didn’t just do her tasks and leave. She took time to actually talk to my mama, make her feel seen, and treat her with so much kindness. I am really amazed and thankful for her compassion and diligent care towards my mother. And it just becomes bigger whenever I see her willingly engaging with my mother, teaching how to always say thanks when care is done, and even sharing Mama's language. But all throughout our stay in their facility, what really touched me was when I saw her reading a book to my mama. It wasn’t part of her job, and no one told her to do it. She just did it out of care. And every time she did, my mama would stop groaning from pain. It was like for a moment, she forgot she was sick. That moment meant so much to us. She gave Mama relief, not just from the illness but from the heavy feeling that comes with it. It might seem simple, but for someone going through cancer, and for a family watching their loved one struggle, those little things matter the most. And that’s something I’ll never forget about her. Thank you, Nurse Karen, for having a big heart towards my Mama.
