Her heart is evident in everything she does, and the impact she makes reaches far beyond the walls of this hospital.
Karen is the very definition of what the DAISY Award represents. She does not simply meet the standard of compassionate nursing—she redefines it every single day through her presence, her dedication, and the quiet, powerful way she shows up for patients during their most vulnerable moments.

While Karen consistently goes above and beyond in her role, today was a day that allowed all of us to witness the depth of her compassion in a way that will stay with us forever. We had a patient who made the deeply personal decision to transition to comfort care. In a moment filled with fear, uncertainty, and overwhelming emotion, this patient felt safest with Karen by his side. That alone speaks volumes about the trust she builds and the humanity she brings into every interaction.

Karen had already been there for him through countless difficult conversations—listening, explaining, reassuring, and holding space when words were hard to find. But yesterday, she stayed through the hardest moment of all. She held his hand through tears, panic, and fear. She offered calm when the room felt heavy. She offered reassurance when the world felt like it was slipping away. Most importantly, she offered presence—the kind that cannot be taught, only lived.

Karen stayed well beyond her scheduled hours, remaining at his bedside late into the night to ensure he was not alone while his family traveled a long distance to be with him. She chose compassion over convenience, humanity over the clock. In that moment, she was not just a nurse—she was comfort, safety, and dignity personified.

As a member of our Case Management department, Karen is a constant light within this hospital. She leads with empathy, patience, strength, and unwavering kindness. Her actions remind us why we chose healthcare in the first place. She advocates fiercely, listens deeply, and treats every patient as a person—not a diagnosis, not a task, not a room number.

I cannot imagine anyone more deserving of a DAISY Award than Karen. She embodies compassion in action and grace under pressure. Her heart is evident in everything she does, and the impact she makes reaches far beyond the walls of this hospital. Karen does not just care for patients—she honors them.
