I am honored to nominate an exceptional Informatics Nurse for the DAISY Award in recognition of her unwavering dedication, leadership, innovation, and commitment to improving patient care across our organization.
I have had the privilege of working alongside Karen Craig during one of the most significant initiatives our hospital has undertaken—the implementation of our new electronic health record, Meditech Expanse. Throughout this complex transition, she has been an invaluable partner whose expertise, commitment, and positive attitude have been instrumental to our success.
What makes her truly exceptional is her ability to find solutions when challenges arise. When others may feel overwhelmed by obstacles, she remains focused, collaborative, and determined to identify the best path forward. She consistently brings fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and practical solutions that help move projects forward while maintaining focus on patient safety and quality outcomes.
In addition to supporting nursing staff, she works closely with physicians, helping them navigate workflow changes and technology challenges with patience, professionalism, and respect. As many healthcare professionals know, balancing the needs of multiple disciplines can be challenging, yet she does so with grace and a collaborative spirit. Her ability to build relationships and gain trust among providers has contributed significantly to the success of numerous initiatives and process improvements.
While she may not provide direct bedside care, her impact on patient care is profound. Through her work in informatics, she helps develop and implement evidence-based workflows, documentation practices, and clinical tools that support nurses and providers in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality care. Every enhancement she helps create ultimately benefits our patients by ensuring clinicians have the resources, information, and processes needed to make informed decisions and provide the best possible care.
Even before the Meditech Expanse implementation, she continuously sought opportunities to improve clinical workflows and operational processes. She has been a trusted resource not only for clinical departments but also for non-clinical teams, helping bridge gaps, improve efficiency, and promote evidence-based practice throughout the organization.
