With Kanaloa there, I was filled with complete confidence that Mom was getting the best care in the world at that moment.
Our cousin, at age 45, recently had an event that led to a hypoxic brain injury with little hope of survival. Our whole family showed up to support and hope for the best. Our cousin's oldest son is 22 and was having to call the shots. Kanaloa prayed for him, bringing him great peace, support, and comfort. He had not left in two days, but on the second night Kanaloa showed up. He was able to step away, take a shower, and take a break for the first time. Kanaloa ended up being the nurse present when our family decided to proceed with turning the ventilator off. He was the greatest support, comfort, and blessing to our family during this impossible time. I can't imagine going through this with anyone else. An incredible addition to the CICU team. I don't even have the words to explain how special he was, is, and forever will be to us. I am a PA in a different state, and not only is he incredibly kind, grateful, and sweet, but he is also really thorough and knowledgeable.

We recently lost a family member after making the difficult decision to end life-sustaining services. He provided support beyond his responsibility to the patient's 22-year-old son, who was having to make difficult decisions. If I were ever to find myself in this position again, I would only want to come to VCSF to seek the care he provided. The care and attention he gave to our family members impacted our lives in a way we could never put into words. He deserves the most recognition for the care and comfort he provided.

Throughout my mother's 3-4 day hospital journey, Kanaloa took exceptional care of her as well as me and my family. One night as I sat alone, restless, and worried next to my dying mother, Kanaloa confided in me that our situation was weighing on him and asked if he could pray for us. I happily agreed, and he went on to say the nicest, most heartfelt prayer not only for my mother's health and comfort but also for my family and me. Immediately, a weight was lifted off my shoulders. He spoke to me like a close friend and found a way to make my family feel at home in some of our darkest moments. With Kanaloa there, I was filled with complete confidence that Mom was getting the best care in the world at that moment.

Kanaloa was my cousin A's night nurse while she was in the CICU. My cousin was sedated and on a ventilator. Kanaloa was extremely caring, patient, knowledgeable, and informative. He explained her prognosis delicately but honestly. The care he provided her was truly top-notch. Kanaloa was especially attentive to A's young adult son, who was one of the main decision-makers regarding his mom's care. Kanaloa took the time to explain everything to him, pray for him, and make him comfortable as well. When Kanaloa came in for his shift, you could see a weight lifted off of A's son's shoulders. He was relieved to see Kanaloa, so much so that he could leave the hospital to take care of himself for a bit. He trusted Kanaloa to take such good care of A after one day of meeting him. Our whole family is so thankful that Kanaloa was there during this hard time.

Kanaloa RN took great care of my daughter, A, during her stay there. All the staff were wonderful, but Kanaloa took the time to give special care to our family, especially my grandson, during this most difficult time. I so appreciated his calm, compassionate nature and his ability to anticipate our needs before we knew we needed them during such a traumatic time. As a nurse myself, I can say that Kanaloa is a great asset to your facility. Thank you for everything, Kanaloa!
