What is most exceptional about Kam is that this type of dedication to her work is the norm. It is one thing to go above and beyond on occasion, and entirely another to maintain a constant sense of devotion and integrity to the values we hold at CHKD.
I have been a nurse working alongside Kamryn since July 2024. Since then, I have myself observed dozens of incidences of Kamryn going above and beyond to advocate for our patients. Were you to ask anyone in the clinic - patients, providers, or fellow nurses - they would share the same sentiments.
As the triage nurse for the busiest specialty clinic associated with Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters, Kam is tasked with scheduling specialty appointments, triaging anaphylactic reactions and asthma exacerbations, obtaining prior authorizations for specialty medications, and communicating with clinics, schools, and pharmacies to ensure adequate care.
When a mom called Kam and requested that an addendum be made for her daughter to be able to self-carry and administer epinephrine, Kam not only obtained permission from the provider but also called nursing staff to ensure that this patient could come in at the end of clinic in order to receive epinephrine administration teaching and review. Even over the phone, Kam's communication skills and sensitivity allowed her to recognize the patient's nervousness and hesitation.
Due to these communication skills, which she regularly employs, she was able to ensure excellent coordination of care and continuity of care. What is most exceptional about Kam is that this type of dedication to her work is the norm.
