I am writing today to talk about my family meeting one extraordinary nurse here at Riddle Hospital named Kaitlyn. Although we only knew Kaitlyn for a short period of time, the time that we spent with her will be forever appreciated.

My mother-in-law was admitted to Riddle Hospital two times within a month before passing away. The last time she was admitted was hard, and the news was grim. She was eventually moved to the 5th-floor pavilion. There, she was blessed with having three wonderful nurses, including Kaitlyn.

On Wednesday, she was placed on Comfort Care, then hospice. We were so fortunate to meet Kaitlyn, her daytime nurse. She was not only wonderful to my MIL, but to us, the family. She was there to answer all questions, and some, she answered more than once.

When her pastor came to visit, along with two Deacons, she offered to stay with us while communion was given to her. I knew this sacrament meant a lot,  but I was very apprehensive that she might choke. Although I am sure Kaitlyn had many other patients to attend to, she could see I was very nervous and offered to stay and help assist. She also had communion, along with the rest of the family.

When we would leave the room for a moment, she would go to the room and freshen up my mother-in-law. She would wash her, comb her hair, and would try to make her as comfortable as she could in her bed. She was always reminding us to eat and even brought in many cups of water for the family.

When she left for the night, she would reassure us and let us know that she was in great hands for the night and that we would see her the next morning.

Although all three of these nurses were wonderful, we would like to specifically recognize Kaitlyn. I understand that this award is given to honor extraordinary nurses, and this is what we believe Kaitlyn is!

Kaitlyn was very reassuring to us, and we knew that she was going to take the best care of my mother-in-law. She was there for her and also for us, offering hugs when needed, talks, and comfort. For such a young lady, she has so much compassion and empathy, way beyond her years!

This young woman only knew us for such a short time, but I am so happy that she was there for my mother-in-law for her last days.

Thank you, Kaitlyn, from the bottom of our hearts!

Thank you, Kaitlyn, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
